Introducing Katie Kirby!
…and the Embarrassing, Catastrophic, Mega-Complicated and Sometimes Disastrous World of Lottie Brooks!
About Lottie
When we meet Lottie, in The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks, she’s almost twelve and she’s about to start high school. And she just knows it’s going to be a disaster… because of her hair, because of her wardrobe, because of all of it really. She wishes she could just stay with her two hamsters. But she strides, or rather trips, bravely into this new teen world ready, or rather not at all ready, to tackle the impossible demands of new friendships, bras, parents who have lost their minds and the embarrassments that just. never. end. From here Lottie deals with hopeless mega-crushes, survives mean girls and terrible nicknames, gets cast in the spring musical as a dancing crab, endures her disgusting younger brother, meets a gorgeous French boy, has her chances of kissing scuppered by new braces, and just about makes it through the worst school trip ever. It’s a lot. But that’s high school for you. And Lottie will be okay. She definitely will. People can’t actually die of embarrassment, right?
The First Book
The Extremely Embarrassing Life of Lottie Brooks
Her best friend has just emigrated (awful), puberty is waiting just round the bend (awful and gross) and now Lottie’s supposed to start a new school?! Impossible. People will want her to do things. People will want her to be things. How can she possibly fit in and be herself? It would all be so much easier if she could just snooze forever… like Sir Barnaby Squeakington and Fuzzball the Third – her two hamsters. Her life is DEFINITELY over. Except it’s not. Really, it’s just beginning.
And the good news is: there are already five books in the series. And thank heavens because once you’ve started, you won’t be able to stop! Aaaand, there’s a sixth book on its way too! It’s not out for another four months or so, so that gives you a good chance to catch up with Lottie and her misadventures so far.
The Lottie Brooks series is renowned among parents and younger readers for being a treasure trove of giggle-inducing relatability. It’s perfect for reluctant readers and is credited by many parents for getting their kids into reading for pleasure.
About Katie Kirby
Katie Kirby is an author and illustrator who lives by the sea in England with her son and her two dogs. She used to have a very grown-up job, but then she discovered that her sense of humour was really too silly, and that she liked doing silly drawings too much, to do a serious job. So, she started writing the Lottie Brooks books! She has written a couple of books for adults too, but kids thought that Lotte Brooks was so good, and she so enjoyed writing them, that she’s now all about the hapless high school shenanigans.
