A Good Way to Have Some Calming and Magical Indoor Fun
It’s a testament to the lasting appeal of the world of Harry Potter and Hogwarts that more lovely ways to conjure and interact with that universe are being continuously developed. As part of our efforts to keep an eye on these lovely bits of merchandise, we have already spoken at length about some stunning pop-up books, some marvellous props and figurines and everything that the work of magnificent illustrator Jim Kay has brought to the HP world. And now, because they are also pretty splendid, we wanted to let you know about two 3D-effect jigsaw puzzles that you can pick up now from your nearest Bargain Books.
Fawkes
This one is a beautiful 3D image that really jumps off the table top. It’s challenging, but not too much so, it looks fantastic once completed and it offers a magical chance to spend a little time with a character who obviously had a big impact on the stories but who may not have gotten as much attention in the films as he should have… although who could forget that scene where he bursts into flames, much to Harry’s distress and Dumbledore’s surprisingly relief?
The puzzle consists of 300 pieces and is recommended for anyone from the age of 6 and up.
Fawkes, the long-serving pet phoenix of Albus Dumbledore, is a highly intelligent and compassionate creature. Without him, our heroes may never have defeated the Basilisk in The Chamber of Secrets. It was Fawke’s healing tears that saved Harry’s life after he was bitten by the Basilisk. Not only that, the cores of both Harry’s and Voldemort’s wands were made from his feathers. Fawkes was last seen flying away from Hogwarts after Dumbledore’s death.
Hagrid’s Hut
With this one, you actually get to construct your very own 3D model of Rubeus Hagrid’s hut. And Hagrid’s Hut, lest we forget, was the scene of many important and curious developments in the stories. Perhaps we don’t think about it as much as the school itself, or other famous locations like Hogsmead or the Ministry of Magic, but we should, because it’s magical through and through. The model consists of 270 pieces and has been rendered in exquisite detail. It makes for an excellent bookshelf adornment and is a wonderful gift for any fan of the books and films. It’s recommended for people of 12 years and older. Hagrid’s Hut sat on the edge of the Forbidden Forest in the grounds of Hogwarts and was a spot of particular interest for Harry, Hermione and Ron, who visited often in search of Hagrid’s (and Fang’s) guidance, support and friendship. It has had many visitors, some ominous and unpleasant like Lucius Malfoy and Cornelius Fudge, and some more welcome like professors Dumbledore and Slughorn. At one point, in the series, as you no doubt remember, it has a pretty grand pumpkin patch.
Happy Potter Puzzling!
