How does buying books online work?

Simply search for the books that you want, click on the "Add to Basket" button, and then when you're done choosing books, click on "Show Basket" on the right.   In the basket, you may check what stock you want to order. Click on "Checkout" when you are happy with your order. You will be taken through 4 order confirmation screens:

  1. The first screen is where you select a delivery address. You can add a new home address here, or select one of our stores for a free delivery!
  2. The second screen is where you select a shipping method. If you selected a store address, you get FREE delivery to that store and will not be able to select another shipping method.
  3. The third screen is where you select a payment method.
  4. The fourth screen is where you can make sure all the details are correct before you confirm your order.

I found a product in one of your bookstores, but when I look on your website it's priced differently and it has a longer leadtime than what a normal store order should take?

These are products that are available from an external supplier, but are not on our warehouse database yet. We therefore use the prices and leadtimes for that supplier. We are currently busy computerising our warehouse, but for the moment only selected store items are being added to the website until the computerisation project is complete.

However, if you've seen a product in our stores that you'd like to order online, let us know and we'll upload it manually for you if there's still enough stock to do so. You can check out our warehouse stock by clicking here.

Are all the items on the website available in your Bricks & Mortar shops?

Some items are only available from our international suppliers. That said, we do offer a FREE DELIVERY option to stores so you can order your books, we'll inform you when they've arrived, and you can collect them from your nearest Bargain Books when convenient.

We feature some great deals in our Store Specials category. These are available both for purchase online, as well as in our stores.

What delivery options are available?

We offer 3 delivery options for online orders:

    • Free delivery to stores - This can take a few days extra, depending on when the store's next delivery is sent.
    • Postal - For R25, we'll post your books to you anywhere in the country.
    • FedEx - (24 hr delivery in Main centres only) For R50 we'll ship your order to you and it will be delivered within 24 hours if you're in a main centre.

How does the process work when I order a book online and select the free-delivery-to-store option?

Your order will be put together at the warehouse. When it's arrived at the store, we'll let you know and you go to the store to collect your order. You just need your order number, quote this number to the person at the till and they'll give you your package.

Paying by credit card: what is 3DSecure and why does it take me to another web page?

3DSecure is a system that adds an extra layer of security when you purchase by credit card. It's slightly more complicated, but helps prevent credit card fraud.

When you pay by credit card, you are redirected to another website which requires that you enter your 3DSecure PIN number. Once this step is completed, your payment is processed and you are taken back to the Bargain Books website where your order is confirmed.

What are multibuys?

Multibuys are special prices that are given for certain items sold in our stores, where you get an immediate discount if you buy a similar title. For instance, an item has a sticker saying "R59 or two for R99" - this means if you buy two items at the R59 price, you'll only pay R99 for those two.

This special is limited to retail stores only.

How do I change my password?

When logged in, scroll down to the Login menu and click on "Account Maintenance" and then click on "Billing Information" - you can enter a new password there.

Returns policy

If you are not satisfied with your purchase, you may return it within 7 days of receiving it.

In the event that you are sent the wrong item or your order is faulty or damaged, we will exchange it for the correct one. If we are unable to exchange it, we will refund you for the item including delivery costs.

If you are not satisfied and the product is in the original condition, you may return it at your cost and we will refund you the purchase price excluding delivery costs.

You may return your Bargain Books Online orders to the store where you received it from; however the package must first reach our Diepriver Warehouse for inspection before any refunds will be done. This can take up to two (2) weeks. Refunds for Online orders cannot be given by a retail store.

For us to give you a refund on a bank deposit payment, you must be willing to send us your banking details. Alternatively, we will reimburse you with a gift voucher from Bargain Books.
